According to a study by ActionAid Bangladesh in 2015, 84% of the women and girls respondents from seven cities in Bangladesh face ‘derogatory comments and sexually coloured abusive language’. To protect such violence, High Court Division (HCD) of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh (SC) delivered a landmark judgment in 2009 addressing the inadequacy of legislation and the lack of effective measures to address sexual harassment at workplaces and educational institutions. However, after almost nine years of issuance of the directives, the presence of an effective mechanism to address sexual harassment against women at educational institutions and workplaces is still not visible.
In this backdrop, ActionAid Bangladesh has conducted the research titled “Sexual Harassment at Educational Institution and Workplaces: Implementation Status of the 2009 Supreme Court Guideline”. Govt. officials, researcher, academician, social activist, the development worker from different sectors and organizations will also join the event.
The event will also include the awarding ceremony of “Nasreen Smriti Padak 2018”.
