US Climate Action Network Announces Keya Chatterjee as New Executive Director

The US Climate Action Network (USCAN) announced today that Keya Chatterjee will join USCAN as its new executive director in mid-November 2014.

“USCAN has been a huge asset to me in my career, as a collaborative place to meet colleagues, share tools and information, and amplify our work,” said Chatterjee. “It has always been my friends and colleagues in the climate movement that have inspired me to bring my best self to this fight. I am honored to lead USCAN and help provide the growing US climate movement with even more opportunities for trust building and collaboration.”

Keya is currently the Senior Director for Renewable Energy and Footprint Outreach at World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and author of the book The Zero Footprint Baby: How to Save the Planet While Raising a Healthy Baby. Keya’s work has focused on building a movement in support of climate action.

“We are thrilled to have Keya on board to lead USCAN at this pivotal moment in the climate movement,” said Heather Coleman, Manager for Climate Change at Oxfam America and USCAN Board chairwoman. “Whether at the local, state, federal, or international level, Keya has the passion and drive to grow the power and influence of our network.”

The daughter of Indian immigrants, Keya was born in Oakland, CA, and raised in the Washington DC region. She currently lives in Washington, DC with her husband and young son. Keya has expertise on a wide range of climate issues— from international climate negotiations to residential solar deployment to movement building—as well as an inspirational “big picture” outlook that makes her an excellent leader. Keya’s passion lies within the empowerment of those whose very communities are most affected by climate change and fossil fuels.

“I’m proud that USCAN has chosen a leader so committed to justice, trust, sharing, and to serving all of the members of USCAN and the climate movement, ” said Colette Pichon Battle, Director of the Gulf Coast Center for Law and Policy and USCAN board member.

In reaction to Keya’s announcement, Bill McKibben, Co-Founder and Board Chair of said, “Keya brings a powerful voice to this fight—her ability to explain the crisis we face and to make the case for the action we can take means she’s a great asset for the movement and for the planet.”

Prior to joining WWF, Keya served as a Climate Change Specialist at USAID and a Program Analyst at NASA’s Earth Science Enterprise. Keya was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco from 1998 to 2000. She currently serves on the board of the Washington Area Bicycling Association. Keya received her Master’s degree in Environmental Science, and her Bachelor’s in Environmental Science and Spanish from the University of Virginia.
